Introducing:
Les Souliers Bleus

The Royal Color

The 18th-century painter Jean-Marc Nattier portrayed the women of the French court in blue so often that the shade took his name: Nattier blue, a color that flattered the pink of his portrait’s skin tones. For centuries, an even, brilliant blue was among the hardest colors to dye silk, making it a color of royalty because of its high cost. Our silk is made in the same region, with expertise passed down from the weavers who once dressed the courts of Versailles.

histoire

The idea for Souliers Dulion came from observing the shoes of Marie-Antoinette and Joséphine de Beauharnais.

In the 19th century, women's attire included delicate silk dancing shoes, typically in soft shades like ivory, blush, or pale blue. The construction was minimal to allow for agility on the dance floor: thin leather or fabric soles, modest heels or often flats. They were usually adorned with decorative touches such as rosettes, bows, or embroidery, sometimes even with tiny beads or sequins for added shimmer under candlelight.

Today, original pairs survive primarily in museum collections or as cherished heirlooms. With Dulion, we are recalling the grace of these long gone souliers, while ensuring you can wear them all day, all night.
